Mm... I guess you could call her that, yeah. When we all entered ALO she decided she wanted to try the healer class, and most of us stuck with DPS or tank. We don't really use much magic.

I know it's reckless, but the world we'd lived in before had no magic at all. We did nothing but train and fight for years using nothing but weapons and the skills we learned there. Old habits die hard, and- spells just didn't come naturally to us. Nobody wanted to make the switch.

I guess I get it, but... Hearing about all these people in other worlds going into these dangerous situations without a dedicated healer just makes my skin crawl.

No, no, don't misunderstand, Asuna is a dedicated healer! She only joins the fight when we're in a pinch and really need her to. We're not that reckless.

Do you need a staff specifically to cast magic, or is it just for stat boosts?

Stat boosts.

If I don't have a staff, I can sort of get by on my offensive magic, but... My healing magic heals for like twenty per cast. Obviously, not good.

What can it do with the staff, then?

With the healing staff the Atroma took away from me, I could hit above a hundred. But I'm like level five as a healer, so...

Offensive, negative status, and debuff magic are based on intelligence as the primary stat for the magic power, but healing, positive status, and buff magic rely on spirit, which... isn't me.

That's kind of how I feel about magic in general. I've always been a strength-agility build- the intelligence stat never even existed.

So what kind of stat is spirit, anyway? I don't think I've seen that one before. Is it like willpower?

Willpower, yeah, but also sort of... The strength of your sense of self? And your mental and emotional strength.

Huh... that makes sense, I think. Technically we draw power from that as well, but it's not a visible stat in the system itself, just sort of... something we feel, I guess.

[Said system being directly linked to the brain, it makes sense. Though if it was a visible trait, his would be through the roof- he literally broke SAO by sheer willpower alone.]

It's not that it draws power from it... I mean, a higher stat means higher numbers, but a higher stat provides benefits in other ways, too.
