Neupos: It's Ms. Yura's girlfriend!
Regained: Day 140
Nyssa, GM clusterfuck

You've been living with Yura for a while now. You don't think you've even left the apartment in a few weeks- something Yura's noticed, too, judging from how she looks at you. And that's why you find yourself, at her insistence, getting your robe and staff ready to go in the early afternoon.

Yura had asked you last night- Today, the kids she teaches wanted to meet her, and and today's dungeon has a lot of magical enemies, so an expert mage like Aiya would be just what the kids need! You get the feeling you're being suckered into it, but... You just can't say no when she looks at you like that. You don't know why, but... Well, it's a huge pain in the ass, but you can do it for one day, right? You just have to fake being okay. It's a one-time thing, and it's not like Yura can sucker you into helping her other jobs, right?

You end up meeting the children in a park- five of them, all of them maybe ten years old. They seem to have a balanced party, you think, looking over them- Three girls (A fighter with sword and shield, a bare-fisted monk, a mage with an expensive-looking staff, which raises your eyebrow), and two boys (a lancer with a spear scaled down to his size, a healer with a cheap wooden staff). You're already thinking of tactics for them, when you notice they're all crowding around you in excitement.

"Ah... Hello." You smile awkwardly. What should you do? You don't know how to handle children. You just have to fake it... You think back to high school, and decide to act like you did as class president- responsible and helpful to whatever they need. That's... right, for kids, right? "My name is Aiya. I'll be helping you out today."

But then, all of that is blown out of your mind as soon as they all gasp and squeal. You're confused and alarmed, but then they start talking. "She really did come!" "She's so cool!" "It's Ms. Yura's girlfriend!"

At that last one, you turn and stare at Yura, who only gives a big grin in response.

Ah, yes. You've been outside for half an hour and you're already exhausted of it.

"No, it's not like that..." You smile back to the kids, trying to calm them down, but that only gets them asking more.

"Are you going to marry her?!" "She says you're a super-genius, is that true?!" "Do you love her?" You're going to strangle her, later.

"What have you been telling them?" Your smile is strained, and you turn to Yura, who isn't even trying to hide that she's laughing. Damn sadist.

"Well, only the truth!" She smiles back, before herding the kids. "Now, now, everyone, calm down. We've got to get going now, okay?"

You end up all piling into a van and driving out to a cave (trapped in a car with a bunch of children, you have no idea how you'll make it through this), and the children form a party. Meanwhile, you and Yura form a party on your own- the level difference would mean they get no experience if you were in a party with them.

"Now, remember, everyone! You'll be leading, but don't go too far ahead of us." Yura calls out.

"Yes, Ms. Yura." The kids all reply in unison.

"And no one go off alone."

"Yes, Ms. Yura."

"And any treasure we find?"

"Goes to who needs it most, Ms. Yura."

"Very good!" She smiles. "Now, we're only here to support you, so go ahead and lead the way!"

You hang back and watch the kids. This dungeon was one you've been in before- The monsters had high physical defense here, but were vulnerable to magic. But this party only had one magic attacker, and they would have limited MP... It was a good dungeon to train for conserving your resources and not panicking in long battles. The party seems to be a fairly orthodox one- The Fighter seems to be the party's leader, with the others deferring to her. They decide to just explore rather than specifically hunting monsters, and start walking, so you follow.

You jump when something grabs you, though. Looking up, it's... Yura. She's holding your hand with a smile, as she walks beside you. Maybe you should pull back... But really, there's nothing wrong with this. You don't mind much. It's okay, if it's Yura, you think, looking up at her. Then you hear whispers from in front- out of the corner of your eye, you see the kids watching you and whispering to each other, covering their mouths, and- squealing giggles, again. You flush and pull your hand away, making Yura pout.

The dungeon is pretty dull for the most part. Occasionally, you and Yura have to step in, you launching a mass-target Fire 3 to wipe out whatever monsters are giving them problems, while Yura brings them all up to full HP. Of course, they get less experience that way, but they don't take the penalty from dying.

One thing you notice is that the mage isn't doing enough. Fights that could be faster are taking forever while the mage only defends, or occasionally casts Fire. You look to Yura, who nods, and you stop them.

You stop the kids, to talk to them. They all look at you with shining eyes, waiting for your 'genius'- Definitely going to strangle Yura later- and you can feel the pressure build up. Still... You turn to the kids in order. The fighter should be in the front lines- she's been paying more attention to attacking than protecting her teammates. That's not a fighter's job. The Lancer is too hesitant, and waiting too long between attacks. The archer is getting too close, so stay out of melee range. The healer's panicking too much, wasting MP as soon as someone takes a scratch.

And the mage, you turn to. She needs to be doing more- Fire is her biggest spell, but it also costs the most. With her equipment, it would be better to cast a Lightning spell- It doesn't do as much damage, but you don't need to, as long as it brings their HP to 0.

One of the boys pouts. "I thought you were going to give us a great team strategy or something..."

You look at him with your arms folded. "You can't have a strategy until everyone understands their roles." Your voice is firm- You're trying to teach these kids, after all. "When everyone knows what they're supposed to do, you'll be able to make strategies yourselves, and those will work better than anything anyone else tells you. A real strategy is about trust, after all- You have to trust your party to make any of them work."

"Yes, ma'am..." They all sound disappointed, though it's the truth- you couldn't give them anything more worthwhile when you've just met them, and from Yura taking your hand again, she knows it, too.

Even so, their performance improves through the rest of the dungeon, and they cheer up when they see how your advice helped. They take down the boss at the end, and get the items- three treasure chests, you note with some surprise. That's unusual, but they deserve it, you guess? They seem to be good kids.

The drive back changes your mind, as they lean forward to start pestering you with questions about your relationship with Yura. "We're just friends!", you try to tell them, as they don't believe you- "You live together, don't you?" "And you've known each other forever!" "And you spent Full Moons Night together!"

"What have you been telling these kids?!" You hiss to Yura as the questions continue, but she just parks with a sheepish grin.

"Well, only harmless stuff, right? You don't have to be so embarrassed, dear~!"

You sigh, but then as everyone gets out, and the kids are waving goodbye, Yura waves back... and then pulls you close and kisses you.

You can feel your face flush. Those kids can see you right now, so what's she doing? Even so, it takes you a few seconds before you actually pull away. All you can manage is an embarrassed "I'm- I'm going back home first!" And then you rush off.

You're really going to strangle her one of these days, damn it.

Notes: This takes place after disowning her parents. Again, all emotional responses are very, very muted, and there's more of an undercurrent of 'how should she act' that makes her act instead of feelings. (There's some real embarrassment in there, though, and some slight dokis.)
Her gear this time looks pretty Takshaka-ish, huh.
Yura's job! She is a mid-level healer, so she takes children through low-level dungeons as a healer so the children can get experience and level up in relative safety. (you can basically think of it as the fantasy RPG equivalent of a little league team.) She's surprisingly good with children, too!
also she apparently has a bunch of jobs? freeloading guilt through the roof.
A little bit more memory on the class rules! There's six 'base' classes, that have easy requirements, and most other classes are built from these. Those are Archer, Lancer, Mage, Healer, Fighter, and Monk.
