Sigpos: Meeting Cove

It's Aiya's first day of college, and despite some mixed feelings, she finds herself relieved that it is still the same college Yura and Araj are going to. The three of them had aligned their schedules together as best they could, and took the same bus to the campus.

Once there, Aiya found she was not as excited as she should have been... In fact- weirdly, she thought- she didn't really feel much of anything about it, past a small measure of relief that she was still with her friends. The drive for learning, to do her best at school always, and the anxiety that accompanied it were far less than they should have been...

That thought didn't get to last long, though, as Yura grabbed her shoulder and pointed at a strange crowd of people, asking what they thought that was. Aiya wasn't sure, so they went to investigate in case it was important...

The crowd was simply all trying to get a look at one person, they were surprised to note. A girl about their own age. She had darker skin, smaller ears, and her eyes were one solid mass of dark blue, and she had dark blue-green hair, kept straight and very long... Aiya had two immediate impressions. The first, that this girl must be a merwoman. She recalled what she knew about them, the lesson in high school flowing back immediately: They live in the ocean depths, but their culture is still a mystery, as contact was only made recently, and it seems they don't like to talk about it. And they couldn't speak normally- They had to form a telepathic link with someone, then communicate through that. Many of the crowd were trying to speak to her, but she said nothing in return. Merfolk were also extremely rare in the surface world, and...

The second impression she had was this girl was extremely beautiful. Yura had to nudge her with an elbow before Aiya realized she was staring. She flushed and looked back at the others, asking if they should see if she needed help?

Araj pointed out they wouldn't have to: The girl was approaching them. All three of them looked over, and saw she was in front of them, staring at Yura in particular. Yura gave a short wave and smiled, greeting her as the "super-cute mergirl". The mergirl held up her hand and waited expectantly, and after a moment of confusion, Yura repeated the gesture. The girl took Yura's hand in her own, and then... without warning, kissed her.

Aiya's heart practically leaped out of her chest, with all sorts of alarmed and anxious feelings she couldn't quite figure out as she watched, too surprised to protest. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Araj was in a similar state of panic to her, both of them blushing rather intensely. Yura, for her part, didn't seem to mind- was that another twisting feeling in her gut, Aiya dismissed it- but Araj recovered first, and still beet-red, asked what she was doing?

There was silence, until Yura started talking, responding to nothing. Simple phrases like "Oh, I see!" or "That makes sense..."- Telepathy, Aiya realized.

But, Yura said, it would be rude to leave her friends out, right? The girl nodded, and Yura just smiled at the other two, relaxed as always. Don't mind it, it's not bad at all, she waved it off like that was the only problem. Still, the girl ended up kissing Araj- (there was that twisting feeling again)- and then herself. She really had no idea how to feel about this...

Link established. She suddenly heard in her head. It was a very self-assured, feminine voice- exactly the kind of voice she'd have expected someone like this girl to have. Not 'this girl', my name is Cove.

Oh. She reads minds.

Only what you think at me.

Okay, not as bad, Aiya thought, but how was she supposed to not think at someone?

Not like that.

Aiya just hung her head in embarrassment and pulled Yura over to her, telling her to handle it. Yura laughed at her a little, introducing each of them to Cove in turn, and then asking what she needed. Cove's talking to them took some time to get used to for Aiya- Even though she could 'hear' it, and tell it came from her, her mouth didn't move at all, and her eyes were a little unnerving...

Still, all Cove needed was directions to her own classroom. Yura brought Aiya back to reality out of her own thoughts by reaching into Aiya's pockets to pull out her map. Easily done, which classroom? She asked.

Cove told them.

The three of them stared.

What is the problem? She asked.

Yura started giggling, while Aiya blushed again, leaving poor Araj to explain- That was their first class, too. Hopefully class would push that kiss out of Aiya's mind. Hopefully.

Notes:

Despite the embarrassment and weirdness, there is an overall sense of positiveness to this memory- she is very pleased to still be with her friends after all, and despite all the conflicting feelings, Cove is extremely pretty, and Aiya is ultimately hopeful for friendship there, especially if they're going to be in a class together.

Effects:
Feelings competence -a shitton
Friend dere +a lot
