Siggay: Yura, your wife is here!
Regained: Day 177
NAFUNA WHY

It's bright and early on a weekend, and you don't have homework. So, with your parents not home (as usual, they're off raiding some dungeon) you decide to head over to Yura's.

The door is answered by Yura's father. He's huge- A giant tiger of a man, with bright white hair and darker skin- Yura takes after him. He's got a towel over his shoulders, and his hair and beard (he calls it his mane, and you have to admit there's a strong resemblance to one) are all wet, like he just got out of the shower. He grins at your presence, showing a mouth full of fangs.

"Aiya! Come in. Yura'll be out soon." You bow in polite greeting, entering the house as he disappears inside for a minute. You head for the living room to wait, noticing you hear water running- That must be Yura. And then you hear knocking on a door, and her dad's voice again: "Yura, your wife is here! Don't keep her waiting."

You immediately turn red and start spluttering, so alarmed you don't even notice Yura's mother looking at you until she clears her throat. You realize she's there and manage to blush even more. Wife? You? That's a little ridiculous for teasing, isn't it? But you remember her kissing you, and how that felt...

Yura's mother seems content to let you calm down, and you try to rein it in, sitting down in a chair stiffly. You can feel yourself still blushing furiously, but... Maybe she won't notice?

"Hello, Aiya." She smiles sweetly at you. "I'm pleased to hear about you and Yura."

"Eh- Huh?" Wait, what?

"I've been concerned, but if it's you, I'm sure I don't have anything to worry about with her. Just try to rein her in some, would you? She can be so reckless."

"Um... Yes, ma'am?" Wait, what is she implying?

"Good." She smiles warmly. "It's been so long since we've seen you over here. Do try to come over more, would you? It's always nice to have you around."

That gives you something to think about besides... the other thing, and you smile. "I'll try. Schoolwork is keeping me pretty busy, but..."

"Oh, why don't you come tutor Yura? Then everyone wins."

"Hm, are you sure they'd focus on studying then?" Yura's dad returns, grinning widely. "Afterall, they are teenagers."

"They most certainly would." Suddenly, there's an edge to her voice, and you jump. You've totally lost track of what's going on, but Yura's dad distracts you by pulling a small bag from his inventory.

"Here, Aiya, I thought you'd like this."

You open it up curiously, and it's... a mug. A white mug with a cat's face on it, and the handle styled to look like a tail. It's very cute, and you laugh and thank him.

"Still, it's about time. We've been wondering how long it would take you two to-" Her father laughs, but is cut off.

"Dear." Her mother has him by the belt loops in his pants, and despite her much smaller size (She's only a little taller than you), she effortlessly lifts him off the floor that way. "Don't be crass. It's better to let them take things at their own pace."

"What things...?" But they've already gone on without you, and the atmosphere of flirting between them makes it rather hard to get a word in. Still, they keep talking about something between you and Yura. Things continue in this vein, until suddenly, Yura comes flying out into the living room- Towel over her shoulder just like her dad, and still dripping.

"Dry yourself properly-" Her mother starts to say, but it's fallen on deaf ears as Yura grabs you and starts dragging you away. All you can manage is a half-hearted wave.

"Sorry about them!" Yura puts her hands together in front of her face. "They've just been insufferable ever since they found out about Full Moons' Night..."

You turn red again. They found out about that? No wonder there was that kind of misunderstanding... You stammer out anyway: "It- It's okay. I don't mind... I like talking to them, anyway. Your house is full of energy all the time, and it's nice."

You're seated on her bed now, and she's sitting next to you, her hand on top of yours. It's really hard not to focus on it, or to stare at Yura, or... remember that night, and her hands in your hair and- No, stop. It's not like that.

But Yura takes her other hand, cups your cheek, tilts your head up, and kisses you.

Oh. Maybe it is like that.

You automatically close your eyes, leaning into the kiss. It feels good, and your heart is pounding. You feel your body relax, and you fall backwards, pulling her with you, on top of you. This isn't so bad... What were you so afraid of? Even your parents would surely understand-

Wait.

You suddenly stop, pushing Yura back. You can't do this. You... What are you thinking? Of course they wouldn't understand. You can't be doing this with her. You- There's no way. Your parents would never let you- You'd never see her again. And there's no way this could work between you, anyway. Yura's so much better than you in basically every way... It would never last, and you'd lose Yura as a friend when it all went wrong. You could never stand that.

"Aiya, what's wrong?" She's looking at you in concern.

"I- I'm sorry. I shouldn't have- I mean- We can't do this."

"We can't? Why not?" She sounds confused. "We're together now, right?"

"We- Wait, what?!" You're even more lost now. Together? With Yura? When did-

"I mean... We spent Full Moons' Night together, and then that happened..." She's looking away now, and you do the same. "I thought... That meant it was mutual..."

"It's..." She's still on top of you, how are you supposed to think like this? "I- I mean... You know what my life is like. I- I can't do this. I'd never be allowed to, they'd kill me, and- I have to focus on school, and-" And I would be an awful match for you, but the words die in your throat.

Even so, you feel something strange in your heart, a pain you don't quite understand... What is it you really want? Like a romance novel, maybe what you want is for her to kiss you again anyway, and tell you it will be okay. If your feelings are mutual, you can make it work...

But Yura backs off. That's right- Ever since you were little, Yura's always been dragging you into things, but she's always respected your boundaries. If you ever really didn't want to do something... That was it. She never made you do anything you didn't want. And now that you've said that... That's it. It's no longer possible.

That... was what you wanted, right? Now you can live up to your parents. Just... Focus on school. Focus on doing things. You can't allow yourself to get distracted by other things, or you'll lose your position at the top, anyway...

"Yeah... Sorry. It was pretty silly of me to assume things, huh?" Yura has her usual smile on, but somehow, it seems sad. "Do you want to go home, then...?"

"No." You say instantly. Even if you can't be together that way- You never will, she deserves so much better than you, and she'll definitely find someone like that one day- You still want to be with her. You take her hands and look her in the eyes. "No matter what happens between us, you'll always be my best friend. Okay?"

'Best friend'. You say it again in your head, to yourself. You won't let a relationship or anything come between you. This is how your relationship with her is set, and that's how it will stay.

Notes:
- she's so gay for yura holy shit
- Yura's parents get more detail! They sort of fawn over Aiya whenever she's around, and Aiya's used to it- They know her home life is shit so they try to make up for it. (They'd totally just steal Aiya for themselves if they could.)
- Her dad is a huge bara white tiger-looking beast tribe man! He is huge. He is the swolest dad. He looks like he is made of sharp fangs and claws and could bench press a semi truck that was itself full of normal trucks. Naturally... He's actually a healer, and doesn't do much physical fighting at all. He's the nicest person you could possibly imagine, and he likes buying little knicknacks and odds and ends for people he knows. Yura's room is full of them, and Aiya's gotten more than a few. (There's a sense in the memory that she's going to have to hide the mug if she doesn't want to lose it.)
- Her mom is tiny, with paler skin and darker hair. She is outwardly very polite and caring, and seems like a normal loving mother and housewife, like she couldn't hurt a fly. She is actually terrifying, some kind of Dark Knight class, and she is incredibly strong, able to basically lift and casually move her husband around like he weighs nothing. Mostly she's sweet, though, and only scary if you fuck with her loved ones. At which point, she will fucking obliterate you and salt the earth.
- They're the kind of couple that remains embarrassingly into each other and embarrasses the hell out of their kid with how in love they are.
- Yura's house feels very home-like and there's a sense that Aiya would rather be there than at her own home, but she's not even aware of this.
- No, seriously, she is seriously incredibly in love with Yura. The crush is huge. The crush is swoler than Yura's dad. It's kind of terrible.
