Neuneg: Don't be friends with someone like her.
Regained: Day 137
Princess bingo

You've been friends with Yura for a long while now. Months. You've even been over to her house a few times, which makes your parents worry, but they don't see any real harm with it- friends are important, too.

When you first told your parents you made a friend, they seemed happy enough. Your father, in fact, seemed quite pleased, though your mother was more cautious. Still, when you asked if you could have her over to play after school, they agreed easily enough (as long as it was okay with her parents, your dad cautions. As long as you are sure to do your homework first, your mother warns.)

When you walk home with Yura, you're excited. She's bringing over a game system, and you told her that your mother said you had to do homework first, but she tells you it's fine! As long as it gets done before they get home, right? Just a little at the start won't hurt. You feel scared to disobey them, but your friend wants this, and you can't really find flaw in her logic.

When you get home, you get your homework out and set it on the living room table while Yura sets up the system. (You don't even know what the system is called, and you want to ask, but you worry if you show yourself as being even that ignorant, she'll be upset...) You nod at your homework- It's not too hard, it won't take too long, and if you leave it out, you won't forget.

Still, once you start playing, you forget all about it. Yura wins a lot, but it's close (you get the feeling she's holding back so you can learn, but you do your best) and you have a lot of fun.

So when you hear the click of the door, you jump and panic, eyes going to the homework on the desk. Yura doesn't realize what's going on- She hasn't met your parents yet, you realize. You freeze, fear and panic building up in your chest. You don't know what to do- you disobeyed your parents. They're going to be mad. What should you do? What can you do? Can you hide? Can you run away?

It's too late. Your mother enters, and looks in surprise between the video game (Yura's paused, at least, to stand up and greet her), Yura, and the blank paper on the desk. Soon, though, her gaze is fixed entirely on Yura. You shrink away from the gaze even though it's not directed at you, but Yura doesn't seem to mind it at all, smiling broadly.

"You... must be Yura. Welcome to our home."

"It's nice to meet you, ma'am!" Yura chirps back happily.

The two trade pleasant greetings, but you can tell your mother is angry, and soon it comes out coldly: "It was nice meeting you, but I think it's about time for you to go home, don't you?"

"Eh, already?" She pouts. "Can I please stay? My parents said I could be out until-"

"No. It's time for you to go." Her tone allowed no argument, and you help Yura put away her things. Your hands are trembling as you do, and you feel like you're about to cry. Yura seems confused by this, but while you're unraveling wires, she 'accidentally' puts her hand on top of yours, and gives you an encouraging smile. You try to return it, but even you can tell it's off.

Once she's gone, your mother looks at you- she's barely taller than you are, anymore, but that look she has makes you feel smaller than a bug. "What is the meaning of this?" She asks.

"That... That was Yura. My friend. I told you about her..." You stammer out. You know she means your homework, but she was happy when you made a friend, so maybe if you bring that up, she'll be happier again?

"Yes... You never mentioned that she was a Beast Tribe."

You think back to your conversations about her. You had told them about how pretty and smart and nice she was, how she got along with everyone, things like that... You didn't, it's true.

"I didn't think about that... Is it important?"

"She's an irresponsible girl." She says flatly. "I told you to do your homework first. If you didn't, it was because of her, right?"

You can feel yourself tearing up. "She wanted to play... Only a little would be okay, I thought, and then we lost track of time..."

"Stop that. You're too old to cry." Her voice is harsh, and you try to make yourself stop crying, but it only makes it harder. "You disobeyed me."

"I'm sorry..." You rub at your eyes. "I didn't mean to."

"You did." The words twist your gut. "You listened to that girl over me."

"I'm sorry... I'll do it right away."

"You will." Your mother says firmly. "Do your homework and go to bed."

"But it's only-"

"Don't talk back to me." You immediately go silent, and nod. "And don't play with that girl anymore. Don't be friends with someone like her. She's a Beast Tribe- Irresponsible and lazy, and she's already starting to infect you with it."

"That's not true!" You burst out. "Yura's my friend, I'm going to be with her!"

"I just told you to not talk back. Another word and you're grounded."

You go silent.

"I will hear no argument." She gives you that look again, and you wish the ground would swallow you up. "You'll stop playing with her. If those are the kinds of friends you make, you'll be better off without."

"I won't!" You shout, surprising yourself as much as her. "I won't stop being Yura's friend! I'm not better off or anything like that!"

Your mother picks your worksheet up off the deck and presses it to your hands. "Go to your room. You're not to come out until the morning." Without another word, you go.

You spend the rest of the evening crying in your room, slowly filling out the answers on your homework. You get hungry, but you were told to stay... You go to bed early, in hopes of falling asleep so tomorrow will come quickly, but you can't. Thoughts and worries all run through your head nonstop... Why didn't you do what she told you? Now will she hate Yura too? It's your own fault for disobeying. You deserve this, after all. And your mother doesn't want you to see her anymore, so maybe you should just obey-

You feel your chest tighten at the very thought. You can't. Yura's your only friend. Being with her is what makes you happiest- Being with her is the only time you ever feel relaxed. Like you don't have to live up to expectations.

The hours drag on, and you become for the first time aware of just how little there is to do in your room.

Notes: Aiya's a third-grader in this memory. Her mother is being like this to a third-grader. I just want to be very clear on this point because jesus christ.
Also the game is a first-person game like a shooter, except you pick a mage, warrior, or rogue. warriors are very strong, offensively and defensively, but slow and have no range. rogues don't do much damage, but they're fast as fuck. mages are really powerful and can attack from range, but can't take a hit. Aiya played mage consistently because FUCK YEAH MAGIC.
