The memory is another where all feelings are dulled and barely there, like you're going through the motions without being able to remember why.
But this one is a little different- one emotion is there. Anxiety. You want to go home, but you don't want to go home. Home is where your parents are waiting, but here is...
You look down at yourself. You're wearing a dress- it doesn't suit you at all. Your parents basically made you wear this and pushed you out the door- They said they wanted you to meet someone, so they gave you the location and sent you off. That location turned out to be a nice restaurant. The one waiting for you there is... a guy? He smiles at you, and you just look back at him awkwardly, a little confused.
Once the small talk starts, though, you manage to do okay. The longer you talk, the easier it is to slide back into your class representative mode, proper and responsible and caring and attentive... but it's hard to make the right faces now. You can't remember what you're supposed to do with your face, and he keeps giving you weird looks. Well, whatever.
You end up learning a lot about him over the course of dinner- little things, nothing big. He's the child of friends of your parents', and he's actually seen you a few times- You vaguely recall this, too, though you didn't do anything to get his attention, you think. He's a high-level ninja (much higher level than you, despite only being a few years older, how pathetic are you?) and has secondary classes as well (all physical, you notice, he must have weighted stats, how lucky). He's an adventurer full-time, but he makes a lot of money from it, and even gets contracted work for high-level monster extermination...
Despite everything, you're starting to be somewhat... interested? This guy (Yutu, his name is) seems nice enough to talk to, and his life does seem pretty interesting. Maybe you can be friends? (No, you can't, the voice in the back of your head reminds you, you're not good enough for friends.) Maybe you could talk to him again sometime, if he ever needed a mage for a dungeon. (When was the last time you talked to Yura, or Araj, or even Cove? Why would someone twice your level ever need you along-)
But your thoughts, positive and negative, all come to a screeching halt, when at the end of dinner, as you're both standing up to go somewhere else, Yutu leans in and kisses you.
You feel electricity run through your spine- but not the nice kind, like when you kissed Yura before. This is wrong, and gross (and of course this was what he was after, why would anyone want to be friends with you).
On reflex, you grab him by the head and push back in alarm, maybe a little harder than you strictly needed to- maybe a lot harder. On reflex, you pushed him off with your hands, and with a strong blast of wind as well, messing up his hair and suit, too. You can tell people are staring now- well, of course they are, you're kind of making a scene here. (They're all staring, they can tell something's wrong with you, why did you do that?)
"Is something wrong?" He asks, confused.
"Um... Yes?" You ignore the stares of the other diners as best you can. "What was that?"
"Sorry, was that too sudden?" He asks- apparently genuinely concerned. What the hell, now he's concerned. "I thought, since this is a date, it was normal, right?"
"Wait a moment. Date?"
"Yes...?" He seems just as confused as you are. "This... was a date, wasn't it?"
You open your mouth to protest, then you realize. Why didn't you connect the dots sooner? Of course that's what it was. Your parents shoved you out the door for this because they want to marry you off. That's all you're good for, since you've failed at everything else they expected from you. Even you can't mess that up... And apparently, your own wants or desires don't enter into even this. They know you don't like boys, yet here they are...
"Sorry. I have to go." Is all you can muster, and you use a Teleport Stone from your inventory, vanishing from the stares of the restaurant.
As you reappear in front of your home, you don't want to go back in. Your parents are there. You don't want to see them. You don't want to disappoint them again, but on even this, they're deciding everything for you... Regardless of how you feel on anything.
You need help. But there's no one who can help you, but yourself.
As you open the door, even the voice in the back of your head has gone silent and numb.
Notes:
The date was really obviously a date from the start, but it literally never occurred to her until he brought it up- She just does not think that way, and the other person being a guy made it just not even an option in her head.
She totally ditched Yutu with the bill. Accident, but still.
Yutu seemed like a very genuinely honest and nice guy. They were both kind of set up badly here.
There's the sense that, while Yutu is very well-off, you're from the same social standing- it's basically confirmation that Aiya is from a pretty rich family with good status. Adventurers get paid.
Her parents want to marry her off! There's the sense that that was discussed before, and it didn't go well.
She thought she was doing okay but it was basically an obvious very awkward anxious mess during the entire dinner with no idea what she was doing.
Weighted stats are when people have very good stats in an area that remain that good even when their stats reallocate when they change classes. It basically makes them specialists in a class! It's uncommon but not terribly so, but most of the time it's very mild- a few extra points in one stat no matter the class- so strong weighted stats can be incredibly powerful when handled right.
Also, just to be clear, the voice in her head is not a literal voice, it's just depression and anxiety and her talking to herself. She's not hallucinating or possessed or shit.
